On behalf of the Australasian Piano Pedgoagy Conference Association and the Organising Committee for the 10th Australasian Piano Pedagogy Conference, I am delighted to advise that the 10th Australasian Piano Pedagogy Conference (APPC) will be held at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, from Monday 4 July to Friday 8 July 2011.

The 2011 Conference – being our 10th – represents a milestone for our organisation, which was launched in 1993 in Adelaide, and brings together pianists, teachers, students, scholars and piano enthusiasts from all over Australia and beyond.

The theme for the conference is:

LEADING NOTES TO EFFECTIVE TEACHING
resolving the past - exploring the future

In selecting the theme, the Organising Committee has sought to present delegates with the opportunity to explore several areas including leading pedagogical and performance practices which foster effective teaching and pianism, a celebration of the past and an exploration of piano pedagogy and performance in the future. Proposals for scholarly papers, lecture recitals and discussion topics for leading an open forum on piano pedagogy and/or performance, which are linked to the theme, are invited (see Call for Papers and Recitals). Proposals for morning and lunchtime recitals are also invited (see Call for Papers and Recitals).

We are currently calling for Expressions of Interest for those wishing to perform in Masterclasses at the 10th APPC. To register your interest in performing in a Masterclass, please complete the Expression of Interest Form.

Internationally recognised performers and teachers including Murray McLachlan, Jane Magrath, Penelope Thwaites, Christopher Norton, Michael Kieran Harvey, Geoffrey Lancaster, Arnan Wiesel and patron of the 2011 APPC, Piers Lane will appear as keynote speakers and/or recitalists while other featured speakers will include Therese Milanovic (Taubmann Technique) and Paula Melville-Clark (Dalcroze Eurhythmics).

During the Conference, tribute will be paid to former member of the APPC Association Committee and strong supporter of the APPC since its inception, Nehama Patkin, OAM (1939-2010).

We would like to acknowledge the generous sponsorship and support of the major sponsor of the 10th APPC, Kawai Australia through its General Manager, John Blanch, together with Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, Riverina Conservatorium of Music, Wagga Wagga, Macquarie Conservatorium of Music, Dubbo and the Association of NSW Regional Conservatoriums, Tibet Advertising, Musica Viva, Hal Leonard Australia Pty Ltd, Alfred Music Publishing, the Australian Music Examinations Board, Wirripang, the Music Teachers’ Associations of NSW, Qld, WA and TAS, and Lina Petkova - without their valuable support this event would not be possible.

"I am truly delighted to be Patron of the Australasian Piano Pedagogy Conference for 2011. I remember vividly my time at the Conference held in Brisbane. I was a Keynote Speaker, along with the late Dr Miriam Hyde, who was such a caring mentor to so many Australian pianists and other musicians. It is an honour to be involved again with a conference which has such a telling history and such a tradition of sharing insights in a warmly welcoming ambience. Let's make the 2011 Conference the most memorable yet!"  Piers Lane
